So, Fluffy, do you fancy a glass of wine when we are done here?".

I entered both the 2006 and 2007 Cornish Indoor rowing competition coming 2nd on both occasions with 2k times of 6.18.8 and 6.17.2. I was really enjoying the rowing. However in 2007 our second daughter was born and my training time became far more limited.

I kept at it but I did not have the time to really improve. I was still enjoying the rowing but life was getting in the way. Our son was born in 2009 and this further restricted my time. In 2010 I turned 30 and decided I wanted to see how fast I could go before I became too old.

I trained hard through the winter of 2010 and although my job means that I struggled to train during the summer months (and still do to some degree), I managed to stay fairly fit and rowed some of my best times during the winter of 2011.

On 10th September 2011 I rowed a World Record for the tandem (2 man) 100,000m in a time of 5:59:06.5 (a 1:49.5 split).

Pushed hard by my now training partner Paul in the challenge series I rowed a new 10k personal best of 33.40.7 in January 2012. I was invited to join Q-Power in February 2012 and entered the English IRC in Manchester at the velodrome.

Despite struggling with the conditions I rowed a new 2k personal best of 6.14.7 and took gold in the 30-39 Hwt category. Unfortunately I managed to injure myself in the run up to BIRC in March 2012 and was not able to compete, much to my frustration.

I am now working hard with Q to improve my strength and power  which  is severely lacking compared to my endurance. 94kg is a lightweight at Q-Power. I am hoping this can help me to row sub 6.10 this year and keep Paul on his toes over the longer rows.
